Human Body

Human Body

One of the first things you need to know when working in English is the parts of the body. You will need to learn the names of the internal (inside the skin) and external body parts. You will also need to learn the words for the functions of each of these body parts. Here are the basics to get you started.

headHead

Inside the head is the brain, which is responsible for thinking. The top of a person's scalp is covered with hair. Beneath the hairline at the front of the face is the forehead. Underneath the forehead are the eyes for seeing, the nose for smelling, and the mouth for eating. On the outside of the mouth are the lips, and on the inside of the mouth are the teeth for biting and thetongue for tasting. Food is swallowed down the throat. At the sides of the face are the cheeks and at the sides of the head are the ears for hearing. At the bottom of a person's face is the chin. The jaw is located on the inside of the cheeks and chin. The neck is what attaches the head to the upper body.

upper bodyUpper Body

At the top and front of the upper body, just below the neck is the collar bone. On the front side of the upper body is the chest, which in women includes the breasts. Babies suck on the nipples of their mother's breasts. Beneath the ribcage are the stomach and the waist. The navel, more commonly referred to as the belly button, is located here as well. On the inside of the upper body are the heart for pumping blood and the lungs for breathing. The rear side of the upper body is called the back, inside which the spine connects the upper body to the lower body.

armUpper Limbs (arms)
The arms are attached to the shoulders. Beneath this area is called the armpit orunderarm. The upper arms have the muscles known as triceps and biceps. The joint halfway down the arm is called the elbow. Between the elbow and the next joint, the wrist, is the forearm. Below the wrist is the hand with four fingers and one thumb. Beside the thumb is the index finger. Beside the index finger is the middle finger, followed by the ringfinger and the little finger. At the ends of the fingers are fingernails.

lower bodyLower Body

Below the waist, on left and right, are the hips. Between the hips are the reproductive organs, the penis (male) or the vagina (female). At the back of the lower body are the buttocks for sitting on. They are also commonly referred to as the rear end or the bum (especially with children). The internal organs in the lower body include the intestines for digesting food, the bladder for holding liquid waste, as well as the liver and the kidneys. This area also contains the woman's uterus, which holds a baby when a woman is pregnant.

legLower Limbs (legs)
The top of the leg is called the thigh, and the joint in the middle of the leg is the knee. The front of the lower leg is the shin and the back of the lower leg is the calf. The ankle connects the foot to the leg. Each foot has five toes. The smallest toe is often called the little toe while the large one is called the big toe. At the ends of the toes are toenails

Sayings may be classified under a number of different terms, of which proverb is probably the best known. Other types of saying are adage, maxim, motto, epigram and aphorism, though frankly the distinction between them is often vague:

  • proverb: a piece of common-sense wisdom expressed in practical, homely terms ("A stitch in time saves nine")
  • adage: is a time-honored and widely known saying ("Where there's smoke, there's fire")
  • maxim: a general rule of behaviour drawn from practical experience ("Neither a borrower nor a lender be")
  • motto: a maxim adopted as a principal of conduct ("Honesty is the best policy")
  • epigram: is a brief, witty, or satirical statement that often gains effect through paradox ("The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it")
  • aphorism: similar to an epigram but more profound rather than witty ("He is a fool that cannot conceal is wisdom")

Stinging Nettle

Stinging Nettle

The following passage from Les Misérables on the utilization of Nettles, shows how conversant Victor Hugo was with the virtues of this commonly despised ‘weed’:

One day he (Monsieur Madeleine) saw some peasants busy plucking out Nettles; he looked at the heap of plants uprooted and already withered, and said – “They are dead. Yet it would be well if people knew how to make use of them. When the nettle is young, its leaf forms an excellent vegetable; when it matures, it has filaments and fibres like hemp and flax. Nettle fabric is as good as canvas. Chopped, the nettle is good for poultry; pounded it is good for cattle. The seed of the nettle mingled with fodder imparts a gloss to the coats of animals; its root mixed with salt produces a beautiful yellow colour. It is besides excellent hay and can be cut twice. And what does the nettle require? Little earth, no attention, no cultivation. Only the seed falls as it ripens, and is difficult to gather. That is all. With a little trouble, the nettle would be useful; it is neglected, and becomes harmful.

Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica)

The main use of the herbal remedies made from the nettle is in the role of a cleansing and detoxifying agent in the body.

Nettle has been around for centuries as an universal remedy for all kinds of problems from lowering blood sugar through helping with the arthritis pains to hemorrhoids and as a beauty treatment, and I heard a lot about the benefits of drinking Nettle tea from my grandma when I was a child constantly battling anemia.

Parts employed: The whole herb, collected in Mayand June, just before coming into flower, and dried in the usual manner prescribed for ‘bunched’ herbs.

Nettle is a potent diuretic
The diuretic action of the nettle is also a highly regarded property possessed by the herb; this property is probably due to the high content of bio-molecules known as the flavonoids and may also be because of the high potassium levels in the herb. The main property of the herbal remedy in this role is that it increases the total production of urine and helps in the effective elimination of accumulated metabolic waste products in the body. Various skin disorders and conditions are also effectively treated using herbal remedies derived from the nettle, as an example, the cases of childhood eczema and arthritic problems are treated using the nettle, and the herbal remedy is extensively used in the treatment of very poor or impaired kidney functioning, beside its use in treating fluid retention issues.

Nettle helps with bleeding, hemorrhoids
Bleeding in any area of the body is treatable by the strong astringent action of the nettle. Nettle in the form of an herbal infusion, as a tincture or in the fresh juice form can be applied externally as a topical measure for the treatment of various cuts and wounds to stanch the bleeding, it can be used in cases of hemorrhoids, it can stanch nose bleeds, and it can also be used as a soothing and healing salve against various burns and scald injuries. The herbal remedies made from the nettle have also been extensively used as a remedy for stemming bleeding during heavy menstrual periods, and paradoxically also in inducing bleeding during delayed or absent periods in women. The nettle remedies also stimulate the production of milk in lactating women, and have a galactagogue role in such cases.

Menopause and Nettle
The herbal remedies made from the nettle can also be used as an excellent restorative remedy for treatment during menopause in women.

Nettle and Asthma
The nettle also helps in clearing away various disorders in the respiratory system and in the treatment of a variety of catarrhal congestion and is an effective remedy in relieving the symptoms of various allergies such as those that come on during hay fever and in asthmatic attacks. The remedies made from the nettle also help in healing disorders affecting the digestive tract; it is an effective remedy against cases of diarrhea, in the treatment of excess gas, and to treat the various inflammation and ulcerations affecting the digestive tract in different people.

The herbal remedies made from the nettle have also been successful treatment elevated blood sugar levels and the nettle seed tincture is said to be able to elevate the functioning and performance of the thyroid gland and in so doing is believed to be capable of reducing disorders such as goiter.

Nettle and Hormones
Nettle root has been found to increase a protein in the blood to which hormones bind. Ingesting nettle root helps to effectively reduce the amount of sex hormones that are “unbound”; that is, free to affect various tissues in the body. This can be helpful in cases of excessive hormonal stimulation, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome in women or benign prostatic hyperplasia in men.

It is very importatnt to remember that the root is much better for benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and hair loss, while the leaf is better for inflammation (including prostatitis), allergies, and as a natural diuretic for people with hypertension.

External use
The fresh juice of the nettle can also be used as an effective topical herbal remedy to relieve the skin of symptoms associated with insect bites and stings; these can include the sting of the nettle as well! Fresh nettle stinging hairs contains the formic acid and the compound histamine, these chemicals responsible for the irritation of skin, have been successfully and traditionally used to stimulate the circulation of blood and to relieve the physical symptoms of disorders such as arthritis and rheumatism in many patients.

Nettle Hair Rinse
Externally it has been used to improve the appearance of the hair, and is said to be a remedy against oily hair and dandruff.
Put 1 ounce of dried nettle leaf in a quart glass canning jar. Pour in boiling water and stir to soak all the leaves. Cap with a lid and steep 2-4 hours. Rinse hair once a week.

Plant ChemicalsThe stinging sensation of the leaf hairs is caused by several plant chemicals including formic acid, histamine, serotonin, and choline. In addition to these chemicals, nettle leaf is rich in minerals, chlorophyll, amino acids, lecithin, carotenoids, flavonoids, sterols, tannins and vitamins. The root of the plant has other chemicals such as scopoletin, sterols, fatty acids, polysaccharides and isolectins. Several of nettle’s lectin chemicals have demonstrated marked antiviral actions (against HIV and several common upper respiratory viruses). Other chemicals (flavonoids in the leaves and a lectin in the root) have been documented with interesting immune stimulant actions in preliminary research which led researchers to suggest that the lectin might be useful in the treatment of systemic lupus

How to be Calm

How to be Calm

altConsider this: You have 30 seconds to diffuse a bomb.

The clock is ticking away. You have to choose between two wires. 20 Seconds. Pressure is mounting. 10 Seconds. People are panic stricken. 5 seconds. You begin to panic too! One cannot stress the importance of being calm in stressful situations enough. The following list will elicit some helpful steps to combat stress and keep calm.

1. Identify Stress: Is your heart pounding because of your speeding vehicle or because you need to catch your flight in an hour’s time? Clear your head for a moment and just think about the origin of your stress. The human brain is such an expert at solving problems that when directed, it uses all its energy to ease it out. Focussing on the real source causes the brain to discharge its stabilising hormones to get the situation under control.

2. Choose Your Response: If you cannot relate to the origin of your stress, you can definitely alter your response strategy. Depending upon the type of stress, you can either shake it off or face it. In order to determine the direction of your response consider the following questions:
• Does stressing over it really matter in the long run? With an impending deadline on your shoulders and huge expectations from your superiors, you might fret a lot to deliver your best. But does stressing over it, make your performance any better?
• How much can you control the situation? You cannot control the rain ruining your daughter’s outdoor birthday party, but you can control how best you choose to finish the presentation for work tomorrow.
• Is the source of your stress in the near or distant past? You cannot control or change things that have already happened. So losing sleep over them is futile. Instead, living your present and being prepared for your future is something within your reach.

3. Take Action: Nothing good has transpired from sitting and mulling over negative thoughts in your head. Procrastinating on an action is something that can cause further stress. Facing it head on is the best way to get rid of it. Empower yourself to believe that you can, and the impossible will become possible. Once you have resolved the problem, the underlying stress will melt away.

4. Shake It Off: If a situation is truly beyond your control, you need to find ways to shake off your stress. Here’s how:
• Breathe: Close your eyes. Inhale deeply through your nose. Count to 5. Exhale through your mouth. Repeat till you feel the negative energy draining off your body.
• Distract Yourself: Think about the things that make you happy. Think about cars. Think about your partner. Visualise yourself on a beach in Goa – the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, and the ocean kissing your feet. You will feel better instantly. Take a drive out on a quiet and long stretch of road. Physically removing yourself from stress will help view your situation in proper perspective.
* Exercise: Sometimes a quick workout helps when nothing else works. Take a swim, go for a jog, do some yoga. The body and mind get into combat mode when working out, and the body releases stabilising hormones that normalise stress and make you feel invigorated.

Stress is the amalgam of all the problems in life. It is the cause of and the reaction to situations. Learning to stay calm will not only help go over rough times easily, but will also ensure a happier and peaceful future.

If you find it difficult to be amused, join a humor club and spend time laughing about nothing! Or watch a funny movie or read a comic.

Exercise

You don’t want to grow old before your time, do you? Given the hectic lifestyle of today, young men as old as 20 are falling prey to the risks of increased blood pressure, cardiovascular distresses and high cholesterol. Just 20 minutes of brisk physical activity stimulates the release of endorphins, improves attention and cognitive performance. So, don’t wait too long to lubricate those joints. Go for a brisk walk, work out at the gym, swim or cycle. Again, you’ll know best what makes you tick. Every park has regular walkers. The tragedy is that most of them are well into their retirement and are walking because the physician has advised it. You don’t have to wait that long! After all, prevention is better than cure.

Inhale

Now let it out! Whether you undertake deep breathing consciously or as part of a yoga regimen, it is a great way to unwind. Focusing on your breathing and taking deep breaths pumps up oxygen into your brain, brings in a sense of peace, calmness and well-being.

Inhale slowly to the count of five, and exhale to another five counts. When you consciously breathe at a slow pace, you trick your body into slowing down as well. Your heart rate calms down, as does the adrenaline rush associated with stress. Repeat till you can feel your body is comfortable loose and your muscles are not bunched up with stress. Even when you are in the midst of a crisis, this simple, self-conscious technique will lull your body into a sense of peace, allowing you to take better, less emotional decisions. It only takes five minutes for you to repeat the breathe-in-breathe-out exercise enough number of times to be able to relax and think your way out of the crisis at hand.

Happy Thoughts

Flood your mind with images that promote peace and tranquility. Imagine yourself in an exotic locale or recall some of your most favourite and happy memories. Think of the good times spent with loved ones and friends. Recall your lighter moments. In short, indulge in a good old daydream. Before you know it, your muscles will have relaxed and you’ll be all set to tackle the world head on!

Dance

It’s not for nothing that music is one of the most often cited interests among today’s generation. As the level of stress with which you are trying to cope increases, so does the gentle influence of music. While the preference of genres may differ, experiments prove that soothing music is often more successful in promoting feelings of tranquility and reducing tension. In contrast, depending on the individual, heavy metal and loud music can escalate feelings of aggression. But there’s no hard and fast rule here. Just being swept off by your favourite track can detach you from the source of stress and rejuvenate you.

Indulge your Senses

Whether you are munching on your favourite food, listening to a good track, watching peaceful images, substituting the stressful stimulus for a more pleasant one can put you back on track.

A Nice Warm Bath

My granddad had a formula that he prescribed for all kinds of troubles—from heartache to an arrear. Relaxing in a hot bath eases weary muscles and joints, relieves stress and promotes a general sense of relaxation and well being, besides preparing your overworked mind for a long, tight snooze! And if you can add an aromatherapy blend to your bath, then you’re in for a wonderfully relaxing time! The most highly recommended blend of oils that combats stress in men is a blend of the oils of Sage, Bergamot and geranium. The synergistic blend relaxes you completely and leaves you with a woodsy after-smell – something your significant other will surely appreciate.

A Good Long Snooze

Provided you aren’t so stressed out that you can’t sleep, a good long nap can work wonders. Ever noticed how Herculean problems diminish in size the next morning? That’s because your brain has enough time to detach and distance from the stress and provide you with much needed freshness of perspective. On the contrary, lack of sleep can make it more difficult for you to cope with aggravations. Snooze mode is the prime time when your body and mind does most of its repairs and renovation. 7-8 hours of solid sleep every night reduces the risks of anxiety, heart disease, depression, hypertension, and strokes.

Treat Yourself!

When you are stressed, anxious or tense, serotonin (a brain chemical responsible for feelings of relaxation and calmness) levels tend to dip. Sweet and starchy foods increase serotonin levels, bringing about a general feeling of content and happiness. But do watch out for the calories! Herbal teas are also a great source of relaxation. Green tea in particular can have a very soothing effect. A rich source of theanine, green tea promotes the release of neurotransmitters like GABA, serotonin and dopamine, which induce a calming effect.

Schedule Your Day

Planning your day in advance keeps you in much better control of your day and events. Sure, you may be called to change your schedule as liabilities crop up, but you still have an idea of what you want accomplished. It also saves you from procrastination which can lead to higher stress levels.

You don’t have to book yourself into a spa in the Himalayas if you feel that the stress in your life is overwhelming you. Just follow our ten Xpert ways to relax (do one of them daily, if you can!) and feel yourself get calmer.

I love the kiwi!!

I love the kiwi!!

“I am a kiwi!” That’s the students who are at Wu-Ling senior high school want to say! As a result of the special color of our uniform, we call ourselves “kiwis”. We have the”Kiwi Festival” every year, and on that day, we can send kiwis and letter to the students and teachers in the school. We just spend a little money, and we can get that service. I think this is vey special feature of my senior high school! = ) Haha~ This is not the advertisement for my school! XD

Because a lot of reasons, I love the taste of kiwis! And, I am going to introduce you the benefits you can get from kiwis.

Vitamin A is one of the most important antioxidants. It can preserve and improve your eyesight. In addition, it also helps us lower our cancer risk.

Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants and it helps support a healthy immune system. Vitamin C may help neutralize free radicals that can damage cells and tissues and lead to disease.

Folic Acid is essential for cell division and healthy red blood cells.  Adequate folic acid consumption during a woman’s childbearing years is strongly associated with reducing the risk of having a baby with birth defects of the brain and spinal cord, known as “neural tube defects.”

Vitamin E can lower the risk of heart disease protects essential fatty acids from oxidation in the body cells and prevents breakdown of body tissues.

There are videos about the kiwi!

A green stone? No! It’s a guava!

A green stone? No! It’s a guava!

B

Do you have the experience that when you have a bite on a guava, you yell louldly” ouch!”? It just because the guava is too hard to give a bite! XD It makes me recall an interesting thing which happened when I was a kid. My mother gave me a small guava to eat. I open my mouth and just want give it a big bite. However, I found that I couldn’t do that! It is too hard for me! I was so frustrated, and finally, my mother could not help but cut it into pieces. After that, I nicknamed it as “green stone” personally. I think it is cute! XD

Even though the guava is really hard, there is no denying that it contains lots of nutrients! Just as following:

Vitamin A plays an important role in maintaining the quality and health of eyesight, skin, teeth, bones and the mucus membranes(黏膜).

Vitamin C makes guava a powerhouse in combating free radicals and oxidation that are key enemies that cause many degenerative diseases(退化性疾病).

Buy the way; in fact, one guava fruit contains four times more vitamin C than an average-sized orange, and ten times more vitamin A than a lemon! What a credible high content of vitamin!

Fiber in guavas promotes digestion and ease bowel movements.

In addition, I find a song about guava. It’s a little stupid. XD

Foods Not to Skip This Winter

Foods Not to Skip This Winter

altThe nip in the air would tell you that it is time for that extra preparation. Come November and you would take out the woollens, scarves and gloves gearing up for the winter chill.

So, as you prepare on the outside, you may also like the body to be prepared from the inside. This would require certain not-to-be-missed foods in your winter diet. Let’s have a look:

1. Oranges

You would need these and loads of them. Rich in Vitamin C, oranges consumed whole or in the form of juice help build immunity against common cold and cough. Keeping a good stock of oranges may not require you to depend on antibiotics.

2. Spinach

This load of green is possibly the most awaited gift of the season. Spinach adds that dash of taste and health to your diet and is an extremely nutritious green vegetable. You can even get a little creative with the preparation, so as to not let the food get boring.

3. Peanuts

Fried, salted, or plain, peanuts are a must-have for the winters. The sugary ‘chikki’ that you may find in the local market should be kept handy. Peanuts in every form are a welcome food for body heat and proteins.

4. Guava

This one is not just good for the metabolism but also for the heart. The elements of raw guava are found to contain lycopene that works well in preventing artery problems. Pink and juicy guavas should make the winter shopping list.

5. Carrots

Probably one of the only gifts of nature that is rich in more than one form of Vitamin, carrots complete your body’s requirement of vitamins B, C, D, E and K, while the carotene gets converted to Vitamin A later. It is no wonder that a plate of heartily made ‘gajar ka halwa’ is to die for.

6. Kiwi

This exotic fruit is another rich source of Vitamin C. A pinch of salt added to freshly cut kiwis may make for a grand entry to your breakfast or evening tea time. Furthermore, this may become a sweet addition to a variety of winter salads.

7. Chicken Soup

We know you love it, so just go ahead and make this an absolute necessity for the winter palate. A piping hot bowl full of chicken soup is best known to drive away the chill of dreadful winters.

8. Cocoa

9. Nuts & Dried Fruits

Dried fruits are known to retain a large amount of the nutritious quotients of fresh fruits. Therefore, they are essential providers of nutrients in the absence of their fresher counterparts. Together with other nuts, they up the quality of diet and their regular consumption, especially in winter, helps combat risks to health.

The above list is sure to keep you hearty and healthy during this winter. So, make sure you skip none of these food items and enjoy a healthy winter!

Finally, Kasab hanged!

Finally, Kasab hanged!

altIndia truly is a study in contrasts and never fail to surprise.

Barely a day after the government was pilloried from all quarters regarding the arrest of two Mumbai girls for their Facebook post questioning the shutdown of Mumbai following Bal Thackeray’s death, here comes the news that Pakistan national Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab and the lone surviving terrorist in the Mumbai attack of November 26, 2008 was hanged in the high-security Yerwada Jail in Pune early on Wednesday after a four-year-long trial.

That the government managed to keep it a top secret operation despite the 24/7/365 presence of TV channels, is in itself commendable. And the fact that Kasab was tried before the special court, and all judicial processes were duly followed only proves the maturity of our democracy. All laws and conventions were duly followed and that’s a lesson to the world from the largest democracy. May be, the world’s oldest democracy can also take a leaf out of our book.

In one masterstroke, the government has brushed aside the allegations of dithering andpolicy paralysis and redeemed itself in no uncertain terms. Kudos to the government for acting really smart for a change, and making us all proud. The way events panned out leading to the hanging of Kasab show real tact on the part of the government. After a four-year-long trial, Kasab, who was being kept at the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai, was moved to the Yerwada jail earlier on Sunday night.

Even Kasab's dengue was nothing but a clever ruse used by the authorities. Since it's mandatory in India to check the convict before he is hanged, Kasab was checked in the guise of dengue and was declared fit.

And since it was a high-profile operation, the secrecy was necessary and fully justified. A four-year-long trial came to a logical conclusion. It is a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives in Mumbai terror attack. The justice was delayed, but not denied and Kasab’s hanging sends out the message loud and clear: INDIA WON'T TOLERATE TERRORISM!

6 Habits That Ruin Our Looks

6 Habits That Ruin Our Looks

MensXP/ShutterstockWe all have certain habits that are hard to get rid of. Some of them seem fairly harmless, but they are not. Without your knowledge these habits are

taking a toll on your looks. Read on to know what we’re talking about:

Sleeping, face first

When you sleep on your side, or on your stomach, the skin on your face gets pushed into the pillow and undergoes a lot of contortions. Over a period of time this pressure can cause wrinkles. Also, using a moisturizer before hitting the sack helps. “Men are strong, men don’t use no moisturizer,” you might say. But if you don’t want to end up with leathery, rough skin any time soon, start using a good moisturizer today. You should apply it right after your shower or every time you wash your face.

MensXP/Shutterstock

Get rid of soaps

Soaps are your enemy, except a few others. Most soaps make your skin highly dry and prone to wrinkles and aging. Even if you apply a face cream post using soap, it is still no good because it completely exhausts your skin of all moisture. Switch to a good face wash and a body wash. There are a million products for men in the market: Nivea, Old Spice, Gillette, and so many more. They are not only gentle on your skin, they also smell terrific.

Cut down on smoking

You’ve probably heard this a gazillion times and shrugged, like you always do. “Bullshit,” you’ll say. It isn’t. It will be great if you can completely quit, but if you can’t, start cutting back, apart from causing cancer and impotency, smoking will also cause lines and wrinkles to form around your mouth. If you want to stay looking young and wrinkle-free, kick the butt.

MensXP/Shutterstock

Our mobiles are brimming with bacteria

I read in a science journal that our phones are dirtier and unhygienic than our toilet seats. The reason being, we keep our phones on restaurant tables, public bathrooms, we lend it to others, leave it in the car. We never really clean our phones, do we? Imagine the amount of bacteria that is transferred to our faces every time we speak on our phones. That definitely takes a toll on our skin: spots, blemishes, infections. The way around this is to use antibacterial wipes often. And always leave your phone in its case and don’t leave it here and there.

Clean hair

Dandruff doesn’t just cause an itchy scalp. Every time a flake falls on your face, it causes infection. Add oily skin to the equation, and you are in some real trouble. You use the same fingers to scratch your scalp and then touch your face with the same hand. We don’t even realize it because it all happens to quickly. More infection, more skin problems. So use a good dandruff shampoo, an organic one and keep your hair itch free.

MensXP/Shutterstock

Sun exposure

No, you’re not bullet proof. And no, sun rays don’t only affect female skin; they affect male skin too. The more exposed you are, the more you’re at risk of contacting skin cancer, and other side effects. Hence, apply sunscreen lotion before 30 minutes of stepping out. It will protect your skin and keep wrinkles at bay.

Get rid of these habits to prolong your youthfulness. You don’t need to start applying make-up but you can definitely invest some time and care towards your facial skin. Although our skin is tougher, we still need to take care.

Most diabetics tend to depend upon taking medications, many of which include hormone supplementation injections and drugs for controlling the sugar levels. ·  Drink water
Water tends to mobilize the high sugar content in blood and thereby helps in preventing aggravation. Drinking 2.5 litres of water, on a daily basis, will not only regulate physical functions but will also lower chances of cardiovascular and diabetic ailments.

·  Green Tea
Green tea is nothing less than a miracle cure for ailments. Consuming a cup of unsweetened green tea regularly will rid the body of free radicals and let the antioxidants, contained within, normalize the blood sugar levels. This will aid in reducing diabetes and help keep the chances at bay.

·  Vinegar
Vinegar is an excellent dietary compound responsible for diluting concentrated sugar-levels in the blood. Studies have shown that two spoonfuls of vinegar before a meal can reduce the glucose influx.

·  Fresh Fruits
Natural fruit sugars are the best options, as dietary supplements, since they provide all the necessary vitamins and minerals required. Studies have shown that an adequate intake of Vitamin A and C maintains blood and bone health. Include fresh citrus fruits like oranges, apples, pineapples, grapes and lemons in your diet. Consume bananas in moderation, since their sugar structure is more complex than that of citrus fruits.

·  Exercise
Proper exercise is the key element in maintaining optimum health. Studies have shown that exercise improves the blood flow and clears sugar levels in the blood. This results in higher metabolism and lower risks of diabetes

Soy
Soy proteins are one of the miracle cures for reducing diabetes among crucial patients. The isoflavones contained in them reduce the sugar content in blood and keep the body nourished, while accumulating much fewer calories, when compared to other foods.

Fresh Vegetables
Fresh vegetables are rich sources of iron, zinc, potassium, calcium and other essential nutrients. These nutrients restore the balance and aid in overall cardiovascular and nervous health. This prompts the body to assimilate proteins and produce insulin in an optimum level.

Lean Meat
Lean meats are great substitutes for non-vegetarians under diabetes risk. The high protein content is essential to sustain physical well-being, since fats and high-carbohydrate diets are out of the question.

Cinnamon Powder
Powdered cinnamon, apart from spicing up your foods, has the ability to lower blood sugar levels, as well. Take a pinch of cinnamon with warm water every day and kiss diabetes goodbye.

Sleep Well
A good night’s sleep is as essential for proper health, as food or exercise. Studies have shown that adults sleeping for 7-8 hours every night have experienced lesser chances of contracting diabetes in the long run, than those who sleep for fewer hours. The science behind it claims that sleep calms the brain and facilitates the normal hormone secretion. Lack of sleep upsets the normal hormonal balance.

Small, Frequent Meals
High metabolic rates are highly conducive in maintaining blood-sugar levels and nothing keeps metabolism more fired up than consuming small portions, frequently. Studies have shown that frequent meals result in greater absorption of nutrients and lesser deposition of fat. Without fat deposition, the insulin secretion is normalized.

Using Methi Seeds: Fenugreek or Methi seeds are considered the most effective of natural cures that can help alleviate typical symptoms of diabetes. Methi seeds should be soaked in water overnight. The water concentrated with the seeds’ juices should be consumed early in the morning on an empty stomach. For making this natural concoction stronger, you can crush the seeds and sieve them through a cloth or filter paper.

Using Natural Juices: Some juices have been found to be effective in controlling high sugar levels that can prove fatal for diabetics. These are juices of fruits and vegetables that are further enriched with antioxidants and many rare micronutrients. The most recommended variety here is the Bitter Gourd or Karela juice. Other options include grape juice or the juice-like extract made from boiling mango leaves in water.

Aloe Gel Remedy: An effective, natural concoction for diabetes can be prepared by adding a few teaspoons of ground Bay Leaf (Tejpatra) with one teaspoon of turmeric. This mixture should be mixed with an equal amount of aloe vera gel and consumed daily, before lunch and dinner.

Using Chapattis to Your Advantage: Another useful way of managing diabetes is increasing the daily intake of fiber in the natural form. This includes increasing the fiber content in chappatis that tend to be eaten with regularity in Indian homes. The refined flour should be mixed with a combination of flours procured from different cereals, particularly those high in soluble fiber. This includes flours of barley and lentils like Chana Dal and ...

Using Jarul or Banaba: Diabetics can use Banaba or Jarul plant extract. Banaba is among the lesser known of herbal plants in India. Along with India, it is grown in only a handful of other nations. The herbal powder of Banaba extract can be used to make herbal tea. This plant contains high concentrations of contains Corosolic acid—the most potent of biochemical compounds that stimulate faster glucose metabolism and help to regulate blood sugar ...

Jamun: Jamun is one of the rarest plants where nearly each part, the leaves, berry and seeds are known to help in controlling blood sugar levels. Neem leaves are useful in a similar manner. Amla or the Indian goose Berry is similarly effective in managing sugar levels. Instead of using only Neem leaves, you can also add leaves of Tulsi and Bel Patra. All these leaves can be boiled together for increasing the potency of the filtered extract.

Sunlight
Studies have shown that moderate exposure to sunlight boosts the physical synthesis of vitamin D, which is essential for doing away with insulin resistance in the body. Lack of Vitamin D results in low insulin production. While soaking up the sun might sound like an excellent yet easy remedy, to reduce diabetes levels, one must pay attention not to overexpose themselves to avoid risks of skin cancer

NEEM

Botanical name : Azadirachta indica A.Juss

Family : Meliaceae

Distribution
Neem is a versatile multipurpose tree native of dry forest areas of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and Africa. In India it occurs throughout the drier parts including the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Maharastra, Gujrarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Environmental Requirements
Neem is a sturdy tree and can adapt to a-wide range of climatic, edaphic and topographical conditions.

Climate Temperature
Being a tropical / sub-tropical plant, it is found in areas with annual mean maximum temperature upto32.5 to 42.5°Cand minimum temperature of 4 to 21°C. Temperatures below 4°C and frost are unfavorable.

Rainfall
Neem comes up well in areas with an average annual rainfall of 450 - 1200 mm.

Soil
Neem grows well on almost all kinds of soils which are well drained. It grows well in loamy, clayey and black cotton soil. It also thrives better than other species on dry, stony, clayey and shallow soils. It can also come up on soil, where there is hard calcareous or clay pan just below the soil surface. It does not grow well on sodic soil and grows moderately on alkaline soil. The optimum pH is 6.2 and above and can also grow well at pH 5.0 and helps in increasing the pH through the addition of calcium rich leaf litter. Water logging and poorly drained soils are unsuitable for Neem.

Pure Neem Oil

by Michael Phillips

A whole plant medicine works in many synergistic ways precisely because of the wide range of compounds to be found in any herb. The nutrient rich seed oil pressed from the seeds of the Azadirachta indica tree (common throughout most of Africa and India) offers three areas of holistic intrigue for fruit tree growers:

The cold-pressed oil of
neem seeds contains over a 100 active constituents.
  • Secondary plant metabolites in neem stimulate an immune response to ward off fungal disease in the fruit tree.
  • Azadirachtin compounds inhibit molting cycles of pest insects found on the tree.
  • Fatty acid chains serve as "fungal food" for the soil food web and the oft-overlooked arboreal food web. A foliar nutritional boost accompanies as well.

Quality Aspects of Neem

The raw seed oil tastes bitter and smells garlicky, if not nutty at its freshest. More to the point, this herbal remedy contains vitamin E, essential amino acids, and secondary plant metabolites called terpenoids and isoflavanoids. The fatty compounds in neem (derived from palmitic, stearic, linoleic, and oleic acids primarily) contribute considerably to overall plant health, which in turn help the fruit tree to be that much more able to resist disease.

Most of neem's insect control properties are attributed solely to a single constituent. Azadirachtin interferes with ecdysone (the key insect molting hormone) and therefore prevents larvae and pupae from completing the molting process. Unlike chemical insecticides, azadirachtin works on the insect's hormonal system, not on the digestive or nervous system, and does not lead to development of resistance in future generations. Azadirachtin by itself has impact but better results can be obtained by using all the liminoid compounds in the whole plant medicine. A kind of synergistic effect is obtained whereby one component strengthens and increases the working of another. The azadirachtin content in pure neem oil should average 1800 parts per million (0.18%) when tested

Bad breath is a major turn off and can also be one of the biggest dreads for some people. This embarrassing problem is caused by bacteria which dwell on your tongue and in other parts of your mouth. Read on to find more about some natural ways which can help you keep your breath fresh at all times.

1. Chew Mint Leaves

Mint leaves are one of the best natural remedies to combat bad breath. Mint refreshes your mouth and gives off a pleasing smell. Chlorophyll present in leaves also absorbs odours and leaves you with a refreshing breath.

2. Gargle with Salt Water

Rinsing and gargling with salt water can clear bacteria as well as food particles and debris on which the bacteria feed on. Put one teaspoon of salt in lukewarm water and swirl the mixture until the salt dissolves completely. Gargling with this mixture will also help you keep a healthy mouth.

3. Brush with Baking Soda

She loved coffee, I loved tea

She loved coffee, I loved tea

Molly, my sister, and I fell out,
And what do you think it was all about?

She loved coffee, and I loved tea,
And that was the reason we couldn't agree!

The battle between coffee lovers and tea drinkers has been around as long as we can remember. Coffee, with its dark sweetness entwined in each deliciously bitter sip is hard to resist. And tea in its many avatars is also an inextricable part of our heritage - nothing compares to a steaming cup of adhrak chai in the morning, or a calming blend of cardamom and cinnamon tea. Western flavours too, have found a loyal following here in India. Earl Grey’s distinctive flavour of bergamot orange, peppermint tea that can be light and refreshing, and a strong cup of lemon tea can perk up any mood. Now how do we pick sides?

To carry forward this argument, let’s take a look at the health benefits of coffee vs. tea. Which beverage prevents diabetes, which one fights cancer, which drink will triumph? Watch to know more.

1. Biking

The benefits of regular exercise have been unanimous in promoting physical health. Studies have shown that regular workouts have reduced the risks of heart attacks and other cardiovascular ailments.

2. Dark Chocolate

Flavonoids contained in dark chocolate are anti-inflammatory agents, which also maintain arterial flexibility, apart from reducing cholesterol levels in the blood. Dark chocolates also boost serotonin levels in the blood and render proper recovery from physical shocks.

3. Beer

Light-beer contains heart-healthy antioxidants, which reduce bad cholesterol levels in the blood. Having a beer everyday may have some benefit to immunity. However, one should exercise moderation while consuming beer, as over-consumption can cause more harm than good.

4. Vitamin B Complex

Regular intake of Vitamin B complex supplements tends to lower the levels of homocysteine, a compound that elevates risks of heart diseases. The blood vessels are also suitably enlarged to allow improved circulation of blood.

5. Sleep Apnea

(Snoring is usually harmless with the exception of possibly strained relationships. However, for some people, snoring is an indication that a more serious condition is present -- sleep apnea. Sleep apnea involves the repetitive blockage during sleep of the airway we use to breath. This can cause a sleep apnea sufferer to awake from deep sleep many times a night, a fact the individual is usually not aware of. Sleep apnea has wide-ranging health effects. Thankfully, oral appliances can successfully open the airway and relieve the symptoms of sleep apnea. Many who snore but don't have sleep apnea also choose to seek treatment in order to help their sleeping partner rest more peacefully.)

Commonly termed as snoring, sleep apnea has been a potent reason for heart diseases in men. Snoring accounts for sporadic or constricted breathing during sleep, causing interrupted rest. This upsets the repairing cycle, thus increasing chances of cardiac arrests in the long run.

6. Sleep

People sleeping less than 7 hours are at higher risks for contracting heart diseases than people with optimum amounts of rest at night. Uninterrupted sleep is absolutely essential for maintaining blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

7. Fish

Fishes are replete in Omega-3 fatty acids, which aid in arterial cell renewal and maintain proper cholesterol levels in blood. Apart from that, it also reduces arterial fibrillations. Consuming salt-water fishes like halibut, cod and salmon, twice a week, will aid in excellent cardiovascular health.

8. High-Fibre Breakfast

With low glycemic levels in the mornings, a high-fibre breakfast is the best way to kick-start the metabolic rate. Studies have shown that men consuming multi-grained breakfast have had 23% less chances of developing heart ailments than those who do not.

9. Flaxseed

Flaxseeds are miracle pills for optimum cardiovascular health. Replete in good quantities of fibre and essential fats, these seeds can be eaten whole, ground or in the form of cooking oil.

10. Garlic

The pungent-tasting clove is an excellent agent in reducing cholesterol. It boosts hormonal activity and purges the blood of impurities. Consuming one or two cloves daily will result in optimum health of your heart.

11. Tea

Be it black or green, tea has been unanimously effective in contributing to cardiovascular health. The rich antioxidant content is said to regulate fluid control and arterial cleansing, and also facilitate low cholesterol levels. People consuming two cups of tea every day have only 11% chance of suffering a stroke in their lifetime.

12. Hazelnut

Consuming 425 grams of hazelnut daily will reduce the risk of coronary blockage by 16%. Its essential oil content is beneficial to the delicate cellular lining of the heart and blood vessels. Whether eaten whole, ground, or roasted, hazelnuts are excellent additions to the daily diet.

13. Legumes

A healthy inclusion of legumes is essential for efficient cardiovascular functions. Rich in fibre and mineral content, legumes provide the right amount of nutrients needed to ensure the proper functioning of the heart.

14. Sex

A good sex life is paramount in maintaining optimum physical functions and this holds true for heart-health, as well. Sex promotes hormonal production, neural stability and vascular strength, among its many benefits. Studies have shown that men having sex twice a week have lesser chances of contracting strokes in their 50’s than those who do not.

15. Ecosprin

The anti-inflammatory power of Ecosprin tends to reduce blood pressure and emotional anxiety. However, it should only be taken according to the doctor’s prescription.

16. Cherries

The sweet little nubs are miraculous in reducing risks of heart disease. Studies conducted show that the anthocyanine pigment, responsible for lending colour to cherries, is also a key ingredient aiding uric acid reduction. An excess of uric acid in blood will eventually lead to cardiac arrest. Consuming a handful of cherries, whether whole, dried or juiced, will ensure a healthy heart for a long time.

17. Beans

Beans contain good quantities of folic acid and are downright essential for maintaining the fluidity of blood, without which it is impossible to ensure cardiovascular wellness. Consuming a cup of beans every day will provide you with all the essential nutrients you need to keep your heart healthy.

18. Oranges

Oranges, one of the richest sources of Vitamin C, lower cholesterol levels and clear arterial blockages. Oranges are versatile fruits, which can be consumed whole or made into juices. Eat an orange every day to reap benefits of good health.

19. Skip Aerated Beverages

Aerated drinks only provide a host of empty calories to the body, while upping sugar levels in the blood. These commercial drinks are responsible for obesity and heart ailments. Opting for water or fruit juices instead, will minimize risks of heart damage.

20. Water

Proper hydration maintains blood fluidity and reduces chances of internal coagulation. Drinking 2.5 litres of water daily will flush the toxins from the system and optimize cholesterol levels.

21. Ginger

Inflammation is one of the many causes of cardiac arrest. Thus, including anti-inflammatory supplements is paramount in keeping vascular infections at bay.

22. Bladder Control

Recent studies have displayed that men exercising great bladder control are more prone to cardiac arrests than men who relieve themselves at the slightest urge. An overloaded bladder induces faster palpitations and causes the arteries to contract, thereby resulting in fatal strokes. Timely urination, thus, will not only preserve the heart, but will also reduce chances of prostrate troubles in the future.

23. Regular Vacations

All work and no play not only make Jack dull, but also make him prone to cardiac arrests. Studies have shown that people taking regular vacations from their strenuous work-life have lesser chances of heart ailments, than people working continuously for months, at a stretch.

24. Heart Rate Variability

HRV is the heart’s ability to respond to various activities and situations. Hotter climates and overexposure to pollution has been one of the prime factors in its rampant increase. Living in artificially cooled and germ-free environments helps reduce the chances of overworking the heart.

25. Multivitamin Supplements

Due to a compelling work-life, it is not always possible to maintain a healthy diet. Taking dietary supplements thus, makes up for all impending nutrient losses. Ask your doctor to prescribe multivitamins for you to take on a daily basis. This will strengthen your immunity, maintain proper vascular viability and keep your overall health in good shape.

26. Stress Management

Stress is the ultimate deterrent to achieving proper heart health. Stress creates a hormonal influx, elevates the heart rate and in doing so, causes the heart to pump at a rate beyond its capacity. Not only does this weaken the heart in the long run, but also makes one susceptible to cardiac arrests. Doing away with stress will increase your resistance to heart ailments

27. No Smoking

One cannot emphasise on the disadvantages of smoking enough. Studies show that regular smokers have 25% more chances of suffering a stroke by their 50’s than non-smokers. Thus, by quitting, one can lead a healthy life.

28. Diabetes Check

Diabetic patients, due to their high insulin resistance, run the risks of quickly developing heart ailments. Keeping a regular check on blood sugar-levels will be an excellent way to keep the circulatory system in a healthy condition. With proper diet and medication, the effects of diabetes can be kept in check.

29. Depression

Depression is one of the prime psychological reasons behind increased susceptibility of strokes. The depressed have shown marked reduction in oxytocin and serotonin production, which in the long run have resulted in poor circulatory health. With proper counselling and psychiatric aid, one can escape the risks of fatal strokes.

30. Regular Cholesterol Check-ups

Annual cholesterol-level checkups are essential to monitor any semblance of cardiac damage. This will help in diagnosing the correct dosage, diet and exercise required, to bring the body back to health.

By following the above-mentioned steps, you will never run the risk of heart attacks.

5 Healthy Food Habits You Must Adopt Today پنج عادت غذایی سالم که باید امروزاتخاذ و عمل شود

5 Healthy Food Habits You Must Adopt Today

You can spend half of your salary at the most expensive gym in town and still feel unhealthy.

The crash diets and madness of workouts do nothing but kill that spirit in you of losing weight. But the big question is: are these crash diets and workouts making you healthy or are they just making you slim? The human body needs a healthy lifestyle to stay vigorous. Here are five simple tweaks you can make in your food habits to stay healthy and youthful.

Fix a time

Don’t confuse your body by eating at a different time each day. The early you understand and adopt the habit, the better it is for you. The human digestive system needs proper gaps between each meal to digest and assimilate the food. Skipping meals and obnoxious eating timings will only lead to the eating between meals or those sinful mid-night snacks, adding an unwanted layer of fat to your belly.

Eat a rainbow

Colours add charm to life, isn’t it? They sure do the same to your body. Try eating fruits and vegetables of as many colours as possible as each coloured fruit will have its own unique nutrient. Upon doing this, you will not have to worry whether you’re eating right or not since you will be consuming minerals, vitamins and other essential nutrients that your body might need.

Swear by breakfast

Every cereal commercial keeps chanting about the importance of a good breakfast and they are not all that wrong. Skipping your breakfast for that meeting you are late for might be the worst decision you made that day. And if you keep doing the same on a regular basis, you might have to face its consequences once you cross your 40s. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as your body does not receive any nutrients post the previous night’s dinner. You sure are a busy man, but there are a lot of healthy, quick and easy to make breakfast ideas you can use.

Binge on fruits

For the ones who suffer from a sweet tooth problem, fruits are a saviour. If you crave for something sweet all the time, try carrying a fruit with you on the go. Fruits have natural sugar; sucrose, that should satisfy you. And if that isn’t enough, add a few drops of honey on it. This will help you watch your calories and also give your body the required nourishment.

Shift to warm water

Warm water is very helpful for the human digestive system. It removes the toxins out of your body, which are responsible for acute headaches and body pain. They also clear your intestines, thus, keeping you safe from all the gastric diseases. Warm water also works wonders on your skin and makes you look hydrated and fresh. The idea is that the temperature of the water that you drink needs to be higher than the room temperature. So, if you like your water on the rocks, it’s probably time you realise that it can be worse than your whiskey!

Bad eating habits are very easy to catch and when you keep following them for a very long time, getting back can be very difficult. These quick tips are easy to include in your schedule. So, kick off those bad table tics right now than cry over your weakened system later.
